KURE is always looking for new people to join our team. All positions are on a volunteer basis. ISU students, faculty, and alumni are eligible work at KURE, though you must be a student to serve on the board of directors.

Become a DJ

The quickest and easiest way to become a member of the KURE team is applying to become a DJ. It is a two part application; you must first fill out the online form, and then send a sample 2 hour playlist to the Programming Director. Instructions regarding the playlist are included on the last page of the online application.

DJ Responsibilities: As a DJ, your prime responsibility is to play music on the air. First time DJ’s will start with a one hour long show, aired weekly. You and the Programming Director will work together on developing a cohesive format for your show, regarding both your on air presence and your music selections.

Join a Committee

Events/Marketing/Underwriting Committee

The Marketing side of this committee helps spread the word of the station through creative means, and the Underwriting Committee works with businesses regarding underwriting and grants.

Meetings are held in the KURE office on Tuesdays at 6:30PM.
Those interested should email the Marketing Director.

Music Committee

The Music Committee listens to and reviews a slew of albums, helps determine the musical direction of KURE, and helps decide what albums are important enough to add to the studio and which ones aren’t. The responsibility of a Music Committee Member is to simply listen to and review several albums each week, and submit them to the Music Director for insertion into the KURE music library.

Meetings are held in the KURE office on Sundays at 6PM.

Sports Department

KURE Sports is a huge source of cyclone sports for students. The sports team broadcasts live sporting events, prepares content (interviews, stories, etc.) for the regularly scheduled sports talk shows, as well as online content regarding high school, college, and professional level sports of all kind.

Production Crew

The production crew is in charge of all technical needs of the station beyond what a basic show might need. The crew sets up and mixes live music from the studio, digitizes, edits, and archives old media, and assists the rest of the KURE staff with any other audio or technical needs they might need.

Engineering Crew

The engineering crew is responsible for the maintenance, upgrades, and technical support for all equipment and computer/networking systems at the station.

Meetings are held in the KURE office on Sundays at 5PM.
Those interested should email the Chief Engineer.

 

Become a Director

The following positions are currently open on the Board of Directors. Those interested should email the General Manager.

Internal Music Director

The Music Director is responsible for the musical direction of the station. The position is basically a weekly routine of receiving music in the mail, meeting with the Music Reviewing committee, divvying up the received music to review, adding that music to the library, making DJ’s aware of the important adds, charting the songs played, and submitting those charts to College Music Journal, the college radio charting service. Also responsible for maintaining communication with distribution representatives. At least one semester as a DJ required, at least one semester as a music reviewer highly recommended.

Assistant General Manager

The Assistant General Manager helps the General Manager with station operations, takes on special projects that don’t specifically fall to any other specific board member and gets a taste of what goes into to keeping the station running. The position is intended to be a precursor and primer to becoming the General Manager.

Public Information Director

The public information director maintains KURE’s public information file. They update the current Public Service Announcements for KURE’s broadcast and connect with the community to gather information for KURE to disseminate.

Website Operations Director

Maintains KURE’s website, implements new functionality, and optimizes performance. Involves some elements of frontend design and backend coding.

Website Content Director

Edits and curates the content of KURE’s website submitted from the station’s respective departments. This includes upcoming events info, music reviews, station news and information. They work closely with the Website Operations Director to maintain the user experience of the KURE website.

Sports Director

Leads sports team in bi-weekly meetings, show preparation, broadcast preparation, and online content management. Attends weekly Board of Directors meetings. Communicates effectively with ISU athletic department for guest booking and game broadcast setup. Trains sports team members for hosting, producing, broadcasting, and promoting the station’s sports programming.

Operations Director

Ensures that KURE’s general operations requirements are in compliance with FCC regulation. They work with the Programming Director to ensure DJs are working under appropriate policies of onair conduct and update these policies as needed.

Internal Music Director

The Internal Music Director organizes KURE’s massive music library. They will work closely with the External Music Director, who receives and process new music sent to the station. The Internal MD chairs the Music Meetings, where reviewers and the music directors discuss new music and determine the musical goals and direction of the station.

KURE-fest Director

They will spearhead the planning of next years KURE-fest concert and lead the KURE-fest Committee. This includes planning for the event as well as coordinating its execution.
