Become a DJ

Apply Online to Become a DJ

The quickest and easiest way to become a member of the KURE team is applying to become a DJ. It is a two part application; you must first fill out the online form, and then send a sample 2 hour playlist to the Programming Director. Instructions regarding the playlist are included on the last page of the online application.

DJ Responsibilities: As a DJ, your prime responsibility is to play music on the air. First time DJ’s will start with a one hour long show, aired weekly. You and the Programming Director will work together on developing a cohesive format for your show, regarding both your on air presence and your music selections.

Join a Committee

Events/Marketing/Underwriting Committee

The Marketing side of this committee helps spread the word of the station through creative means, and the Underwriting Committee works with businesses regarding underwriting and grants (a slightly different form of advertising used by non-profit organizations such as KURE). Those interested should email the Marketing Director.

Music Committee

The Music Committee listens to and reviews a slew of albums, helps determine the musical direction of KURE, and helps decide what albums are important enough to add to the studio and which ones aren’t. The responsibility of a Music Committee Member is to simply listen to and review several albums each week, convert them to a digital format (if not already in one), properly tag/label the music, and submit it to the Music Director for insertion into the KURE music library. Those interested should email the Music Director.

Sports Department

KURE Sports is a huge source of cyclone sports for students. The sports team broadcasts live sporting events, prepares content (interviews, stories, etc.) for the regularly scheduled sports talk shows, as well as online content regarding high school, college (cyclone or otherwise), and professional level sports of all kind. Those interested should email the Sports Director.

Production Crew

The production crew is in charge of all technical needs of the station beyond what a basic show might need. The crew sets up and mixes live music from the studio, archives and edits old tapes/minidiscs etc. that we find around the station, and assists the rest of the KURE staff with any other audio or technical needs they might need. Those interested should email the Production Director.

Become a Director

The following positions are currently open on the Board of Directors. Those interested should email the General Manager.

Music Director

The Music Director is responsible for the musical direction of the station. The position is basically a weekly routine of receiving music in the mail, meeting with the Music Reviewing committee, divvying up the received music to review, adding that music to the library, making DJ’s aware of the important adds, charting the songs played, and submitting those charts to College Music Journal, the college radio charting service. Also responsible for maintaining communication with distribution representatives. At least one semester as a DJ required, at least one semester as a music reviewer highly recommended.

News Director

We currently have a few people working on the development and systemization of a news team, but we are looking for a leader to further organize and oversee the news team. Responsibilities would include chairing weekly meetings, making decisions regarding content, production, timing, etc. No prior KURE experience necessary. Experience in the journalism world, be it with the Greenlee school or otherwise, are highly recommended.
